
Shilo McNamee / First Nations Lead
Shilo McNamee is a visual artist and musician of Greek, Indigenous (Eastern Arrernte, Jaru) heritage, living and working on Larrakia country (Darwin) in the NT. Shilo earned a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Charles Darwin University in 2008, specialising in traditional (Western) painting media and figure drawing which she has incorporated into her practice as an artist and illustrator.
Shilo is passionate about creating platforms that support economic development and self-determination in regional and remote spaces. As well as, increasing access to professional development opportunities for independent creatives.
Shilo has well over a decade of experience in the development of grass roots initiatives as well as major event delivery. Prior to her appointment as First Nations Lead with Regional Arts Australia, Shilo was the Artistic Director for the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation, and Creative Director for Indigenous Fashion Projects 2018 to 2024.
Shilo is excited to be working in this brand-new role with Regional Arts Australia, and supporting the Knowledge Circle to create more accessible and inclusive pathways in the arts.
