Project Title: Exploring the Power of the Natural Environment
Felicity Chapman is a proud Aboriginal weaver, textile artist and visual storyteller; stolen generation descendant living with an acquired brain injury on Ngaro country in the Whitsundays, North Queensland. As a curious creative, Felicity provides the platform for complex fragile eco-systems to communicate their non-verbal stories and wisdom with a wider audience. Through a process of multi-layered hand botanical & eco dyeing; energy, wisdom and sentient memories are imprinted on a range of luxurious silk and cotton fabrics and natural fibres. Felicity utilises a range of traditional and contemporary materials and techniques to weave high quality jewellery, headpieces, baskets and dillybags. As a Cultural Social and Emotional Wellbeing practitioner, Felicity utilises cultural creative practices to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community members to strengthen their connection to country and culture, celebrate their creative expression, and grow their self-confidence.
