FAQ | Regional Scribes: Screen Edition
REGIONAL SCRIBES IS AN ONLINE PROGRAM FOR YOUNG WRITERS AND STORYTELLERS AGED 18–24 LIVING IN REGIONAL AND REMOTE AUSTRALIA.
Access and Participation
How many people can join?
Regional Scribes is limited to 20 participants, so submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) does not guarantee inclusion. We're looking for participants from right across regional Australia, from all backgrounds and levels of experience.
Do I need internet access to participate?
Access to the internet is a requirement, but not a hurdle. If you'd like assistance achieving a better quality of internet connection, or the right materials to participate, please contact the Regional Scribes Facilitators for a confidential chat.
What if I have other access needs?
Please detail these in the EOI form so that Regional Arts Australia team can accommodate everyone to the best of our ability.
Who do I contact with other questions?
Reach out to Facilitators Brooke, Trav and Alysha at scribes@regionalarts.com.au.
About the Program
Who facilitates Regional Scribes?
Alysha Herrmann, Brooke Collard and Travis Akbar facilitate this screen-focused edition of Regional Scribes. All three are screenwriters and creatives living and working in regional Australia, and they understand what it's like to feel isolated and unsure where to start. Together, they aim to:
- Share their knowledge across screen, storytelling, writing and the arts more broadly
- Connect participants with new people who may become friends, collaborators, mentors (or professional art crushes!)
- Find new ways to be together over distance and time
- Prove that great work can be made from wherever you already are

What kind of writing is included in "writing for, or about, screen projects"?
Writing for screen projects includes scripts for TV, short films, feature films, online and interactive content, vertical dramas, video games, or documentaries.
Writing about screen projects includes online blogs or TikTok videos discussing your favourite films, or scholarly writing on screen issues.
We're also open to hearing from anyone engaged with screen culture in ways not described here.
I haven't had any of my screen projects professionally produced or received any grants. Am I eligible?
Yes. We want to hear from people at any stage of their journey, including those who haven't yet completed projects or undertaken formal study.
Program Structure and Dates
What are the program dates?
Participants should be available on the following five dates:
- 29 October 2026
- 26 November 2026
(Break in December) - 28 January 2027
- 25 February 2027
- 25 March 2027
There are 5 group sessions in total, plus additional one-on-one sessions and asynchronous interaction throughout the 6-month program.
Do I need to be available for all of the dates?
We understand unexpected things happen, and you won't be penalised for missing a session. However, the whole point of the program is being in the sessions and getting value from the cohort and guest speakers. By submitting an EOI, you agree to attend all five sessions and fully engage with other program material throughout Regional Scribes.
