Hey Mate: Wellbeing Partner

 ABOUT HEY MATE

Hey Mate is a national social enterprise delivering specialised mental health and wellbeing support across Australia’s creative industries. Working at the intersection of arts, health, and community, Hey Mate supports artists, arts workers, and organisations engaged in complex, relational and place-based practice.

Founded by counsellor and accredited Mental Health First Aid Instructor Aimee Davies, Hey Mate brings deep sector knowledge and clinical expertise to the unique pressures of Community Arts and Cultural Development (CACD) practice. Their work spans regional and remote communities across Australia, delivering embedded support models that combine mental health training, counselling, psychosocial risk frameworks, and peer reflection.

Hey Mate’s approach is proactive, trauma-aware and culturally responsive, recognising that sustainable creative practice requires sustained wellbeing support. Rather than responding only to crisis, their work builds capacity, strengthens boundaries, and supports ethical engagement within communities.

Through partnerships with organisations including Regional Arts NSW, QMusic, Queensland Ballet and national creative programs, Hey Mate is a leading voice in supporting the mental health of Australia’s creative workforce.

Practice In Community is designed and delivered by Regional Arts Australia, supported by Minderoo Foundation.
