Creative & Professional Development Fellowship

Martumili Artists will support Martu artist Corban Clause Williams to present a major new body of work at Art Paris 2027 in Paris, France, creating a significant international platform for cultural exchange and career development. Grounded in connection to Kaalpa (ngurra/Country), Corban’s practice draws on deep cultural knowledge and a distinctive contemporary visual language shaped by intergenerational learning from family and Martu Elders. Alongside the exhibition, Corban will represent his work and Martu culture directly to international audiences through presentations, networking opportunities, and engagement with leading curators, galleries, collectors, and institutions.

Corban Clause Williams is widely recognised as one of the leading artists of the younger generation of Martumili Artists. Raised in Newman, Western Australia and deeply connected to his Martu heritage, Corban draws inspiration from Kaalpa (Canning Stock Route Well 23), his grandfather’s Country, where generations of his family lived, travelled, and gathered cultural knowledge. Through painting, he shares stories of Country, culture, and family while continuing the traditions passed down to him by his Elders, including his grandmother, the late J. Biljabu. Corban’s artistic journey began at Martumili Artists, where he worked behind the scenes preparing canvases and supporting exhibitions before developing his own distinctive practice. Today, his paintings are celebrated for their cultural depth and contemporary energy. His work has been exhibited extensively across Australia and internationally, earning significant recognition and establishing him as an important voice in contemporary Aboriginal art and a cultural ambassador for Martu people.
