Project Title: Researching Established Creative and Community Recovery Models for implementation on Larrakia Country

Creative & Professional Development Fellowship

Carlo Ansaldo will develop networks, skills and research into working models of creative community-led disaster preparedness, response and recovery, bringing learnings back to Darwin to inform regional programming in creative recovery. Carlo will visit leaders in this emerging field, traveling to Lismore and Castlemaine - two regions known for having developed practitioners and researchers in the community and creative recovery space. Meeting with organisations, individual workers, consultants and researchers, Carlo will learn how their creative sector has organised and programmed for communities affected by disaster.

Carlo Ansaldo (he/him) specialises in artistic, facilitation and co-ordination roles within the creative and community sector of Gulumerrgin/Darwin. He is the Climate Officer at Darwin Community Arts and the Programming Co-ordinator of Saltwater Radio, a new community radio initiative under 8ccc 102.1FM. He DJs under C. Crater and hosts Troppogoth: Hotter than hell, a radio show and nightclub. Carlo has worked in NT grassroots community spaces over the past decade as well as major national arts institutions. During this time he moved from traditional visual arts curating through public art consultancy to now develop and deliver creative and community programming in direct response to climate crisis. He does this with the ambition of turning our communities into each other before, during and after disasters strike, using art as a key tool in resisting fascism and cultivating our collective survival.
