Arts & Edges, Kalgoorlie-Boulder: 16th -19th October 2014
When hundreds of regional creative workers converged on Kalgoorlie-Boulder, at the edge of the Western Desert in 2014, the scene was set to deliver a unique cultural experience for residents and visitors alike.
Arts & Edges cultivated stimulating content, networking artistic programs and inspiring talks. This event was at the cutting edge of ideas, culture and art , immersed as it was in a creative and innovative atmosphere of collaborative discovery and knowledge sharing.
This was the second time Western Australia had hosted the RAA Conference (called the RAA Summit in 2014) and successfully merged a creative program with engaging discussions on the future of regional arts at the local, state and national levels.
Artistic Director Ben Fox delivered on his three key topics explored under the theme Arts & Edges. Each topic listed below provided a keynote presenter and a focus day based on these questions.
Fulcrum – Can we define our cultural maps, languages, civic foundations, ground truths, stories, myths and legends?
Flux – In these interesting times of unknowable change and disruptive creativity, where are the crisis opportunities?
Flow – How do we make clarity, focus, work with streams, curate within lines, get it done and build momentum?
RAA and Country Arts WA will continue to roll out materials that were presented at Arts and Edges in line with the events aim to leave a long term creative legacy in the communities it is held- and in the minds and hearts of those that attended.
